Over 50 initial Instrument Ratings conducted per year. With our company devised aids, experience and Grade 1 instructors, you are assured of a rating of the highest standard.

The Multi Engine Ratings course is structured to start in the synthetic trainer, which incorporates nav aid training to develop an understanding of the use of navigational aids and their associated instrument approaches, before moving on to a series of navigational exercises in the trainer.

CoastJet has 3 fully operational Category B Version 8 Elite Synthetic Trainers for multi engine command instrument rating trainees to practice.

By the time you start the instrument training in the aircraft, your instructor has confirmed your ability to progress to this stage of the Multi Engine Ratings course, and the synthetic trainer has given you the practical knowledge to understand the theory components better.

From this point, you move onto the Cessna 182 for a minimum of 5 hours of instrument training, involving airwork, navaid training and IFR navigational sequences.

The next stage is to complete your initial or type endorsement on the Baron (if not previously type rated, 1 to 2 hours will be integrated into the IFR training) prior to moving on to our Baron IFR training sequences, again incorporating IFR airwork, navaid work and navigational sequences.

Before your flight test, you will be evaluated on your IFR theory knowledge, including a thorough revision of your knowledge deficiency report.

Prices include up to 4 weeks accommodation in Port Macquarie.

The duration of the MECIR course is 4 weeks and the pre-requisites are 50 hours as pilot in command on cross country flights, and 10 hours of night experience, including 5 hours in command.
